Kilkenny Castle is located in the heart of Kilkenny City in an area known as the “High Town”, beside the River Nore which runs through the town. It was built in the early part of the 13th Century for the 4th Earl of Pembroke and was home to the powerful Butler family for over 600 years.
Rothe House Kilkenny is a fine example of an early 17th century merchant’s house and is located in the centre of Kilkenny City. The house was built somewhere between 1594 and 1610 and is open to visitors. Is is also the centre for genealogy in Kilkenny and the Garden was opened to the public in 2008. The attraction is managed by the Kilkenny Archaeological Society and houses a significant collection of historical artefacts.
St. Canice’s Cathedral and Round Tower has been a feature of Kilkenny City for over 800 years and well worth a visit when in Kilkenny. The Cathedral has two fine examples of stained glass windows from the Harry Clarke Studio and the Round Tower is the oldest structure in Kilkenny City. Visitors can climb the tower and enjoy great views of the city.

The Arts Festival has been a key fixture in the city for over 40 years. The best Irish and International performances and performers have attended the Festival over the years.
