Castle Park and Playground
A very short walk from the Ormonde Hotel. A perfect place to let the kids run wild. The park is open 9am til 8.30pm over the Summer and boasts a woodland walk and lake area where you can feed the ducks. There is also a great children’s playground with Astroturf. Admission to the park is FREE.
Go with the Flow River Adventures
A very short walk from the Ormonde Hotel. Exciting river adventures in Canadian canoes on the Nore River, suitable for all ages. All equipment supplied and instruction provided. Advance booking is mandatory, contact 087-252 9700 to book or for more information.
Country Leisure and Activity Centre (Castlecomer Rd)
2km’s from Kilkenny City. Try your hand at long bow archery or clay pigeon shooting, fun for all ages. Open 10am til 6pm, 7 days a week. All equipment is provided and pre booking is advised. Phone Mary on 056-776 1791.
Kilkenny Cycle Tours
Offering you the opportunity to visit historical and cultural sites around Kilkenny including Kilkenny Castle, The Kilkenny Design Centre, Shee Alms House, The Tholsel, St. Mary’s Church, Rothe House & Gardens, The Courthouse (Grace’s Castle), St. Francis’ Abbey, The Black Abbey and St. Canice’s Cathedral. Kilkenny City Tours
A fantastic way to view the city is to take the Kilkenny City road train. See historical sites like Kilkenny Castle, St. Canices Cathedral, Rothe House and much more. The tour starts off at Kilkenny Castle and brings you on a 25 minute tour of the Medieval Kilkenny City. First departure 10am, last departure 5pm from Kilkenny Castle. Special offer for Kilkenny Ormonde Hotel guests, one free child with every adult ticket sold.
Kbowl MacDonough Junction Shopping Centre
A 15 minute walk from the Ormonde Hotel. Family Entertainment centre with ten pin bowling, pool tables, air hockey, all the latest video games and Dragons Den Play area for children up to 8 years of age. Phone: 056-778 8200
(15 min walk from The Ormonde Hotel). Located a short walk from Kbowl in MacDonough Junction Shopping Centre, The PlayStation is a perfect place to take the wee ones. With a massive indoor slides,0-3 toddler area, hurling tunnel and ride on kart area your children will be entertained for hours. The PlayStation is opened 7 days a week, 10am til 6pm Monday to Saturday and 12pm til 6pm on Sundays.
Things to do Outside of Kilkenny City (transport is required):
Nore Valley Park Pet Farm and Activity Centre
Approximately 20 mins by car. Come and enjoy fun at the farm. Take time out and stroll around the farm, allow the children to play in an interactive and relaxing setting. Bottle feed lambs or goats and feed ducks and turkeys as well as learn about your Irish heritage of farming. Phone: 056-772 7229.
Located just outside the beautiful village of Inistioge, in County Kilkenny, the Woodstock Gardens has a lovely playground for young ones aged 14 and under. There is also the beautiful Woodland walk where you can bring your own picnic and just enjoy the space to play and the view.
Castlecomer Discovery Park
Set in the former gardens and stable yard of the Wandesforde Estate, visitors to Castlecomer Discovery Park can enjoy both indoor and outdoor experiences. Jellie Tots Playcentre
For indoor fun look no further than Jellie Tots Playcentre. Located a 2 minute drive from Kilkenny’s city centre, Jellie Tots won’t disappoint. Open 7 days a week 10am til 6pm (excluding Sundays 12pm til 6pm). Children €7, under 2’s free with paying child. Adults are FREE. Phone: 056-771 5500
National Reptile Zoo (Approximately 20 mins by car)
Ever wondered what a snake feels like? Or how much alligators eat? National Reptile Zoo is an indoor facility displaying various species of snakes, lizards, crocodiles, frogs and spiders, with over 120 animals and 50 different species on display, it is Ireland’s only dedicated reptile zoo and well worth a visit.
