Stay at Kilkenny Ormonde after an active day trip to Waterford Greenway

Waterford Greenway is a 50 minute drive from Kilkenny Ormonde Hotel

The Waterford Greenway sometimes known as the Déise Greenway is a trail route approximately 52 minutes drive away from Kilkenny Ormonde Hotel in Kilkenny City Centre. It is a route used for hiking and cycling which was converted from an old railway line.

Waterford Greenway was opened on March 2017 and is now a part of the EuroVelo 1 route. The EuroVelo 1 is an Atlantic Coast cycling route that passes through Norway, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, England, France, Spain and Portugal. If you want a relaxing walk through the South of Ireland countryside or to experience one of the most scenic points on the EuroVelo 1, the Waterford Greenway is for you.

The passage features 11 bridges, 3 viaducts and a 400 metre tunnel. It runs from Waterford City to Dungarven passing the Copper Coast along the way also sharing banks with the River Suir. At 46km, it is Ireland’s longest greenway.

After opening in March 2017, it was announced that the Waterford Greenway had already reached its first 250,000 visitors by December of that year. It is true to say that the Waterford Greenway route is one of Ireland’s brightest new attractions in the south of the island.
