Some of the best things to do and see in Kilkenny this autumn

TOP FIVE THINGS FOR VISITORS TO LOOK FORWARD TO IN KILKENNY THIS AUTUMN

Tour Kilkenny by Foot
There are few cities in Ireland that are as accessible on foot as Kilkenny city is. Being outdoors is a big part of being in Kilkenny. From thrill-seekers to those looking for a more leisurely day out, there's loads of things to do in Kilkenny while you make the most of the great outdoors. Just some of the places to visit without the car include...

Ireland’s Medieval Mile, which runs from ‘Castle to Cathedral’ in the City, this discovery trail is an ideal way to enjoy the compactness of Kilkenny City on foot.

Linking the the Anglo-Norman Kilkenny Castle and the13th Century St Canice’s Cathedral and Round Tower, the Medieval Mile takes in everything in between.

Kilkenny Castle is one of Ireland's most iconic and historic sites, year-round tours are available, and the parkland of the castle has 50 acres to explore, including a super childrens playground. Just a stone’s throw away, across the road is the Kilkenny Design Centre & Foodhall filled with beautiful Kilkenny crafts and delicously tempting sweet treats and lunch menu.

From the magnificent Castle to the enchanting Rothe Gardens to St. Canice’s Round Tower, which at 30m is one of only three climbable towers in Ireland and the wonderful Medieval Mile Museum which was formerly the 13th century St Mary’s Church.

The Butler Galley situated in the wonderfully restored Evans bulding, is the South East of Ireland's leading Art Gallery and Museum. Located in Kilkenny City Centre. The Gallery is free to visit and open six days a week.

Kilkenny has created a great FREE audio guide that allows you to hear the stories of this medieval city...download it for free and Discover the Stories of Kilkenny here.

Kilkenny's Street Culture

Kilkenny's medieval streets are dotted with things to interest you. While you're strolling the City you'll come across boutiques, delis, craft studios, art galleries and cute cafés to stop off in and enjoy cake and a cuppa or a delicous lunch. The Farmers' Market on the Parade in front of Kilenny Castle makes a lovely browse too, if you're in town on a Thursday or Saturday.

Medieval Mile Museum
No visit to Kilkenny is complete without a trip to the Medieval Mile Museum  in the converted St. Mary’s Church. Situated in the centre of the city and of the Mile, this is a wonderful place for families and group tours to experience life centuries ago in the city. Entry to the Museum by means of an ‘Interactive Audio Tour’ is  €8.50 per adult, €3.50 per child, and the museum also hosts temporary exhibitions and events.

Kilkenny Ghost Tours
Why not try a ghost tour through the ‘Medieval Capital of Ireland’ and uncover terrifying tales and horrid histories. With its narrow cobbled laneways, remnants of its city walls and with its mystic charm, it should be no surprise that Kilkenny is bursting with tales of the paranormal. Its people have told stories for generations, handed down to become far more than hearsay. Kilkenny’s ghostly tales all have one very important thing in common they are all based around fact and arise from genuine historic tragedies. Scares await at every turn.
